Owner James Beauchamp was born in Carson City and raised in Truckee. His father, Ted Beauchamp, was a schoolteacher and assistant principal in the Washoe County School District. James Beauchamp worked for Chem-Dry of Lake Tahoe for 15 years before he and his wife, Nora, took over operations ten years ago from Tim and Kathi Ivens, who started the franchise over 45 years ago.

History of the Chem-Dry Brand
As a young man working through law school in the early 1970s, Robert Harris was a carpet cleaner working for someone else. Unhappy with the performance of the available cleaning products, he began looking for a better solution. His research involved years of studying the chemical properties of cleaning formulas, as well as years of backbreaking experiments that required cleaning areas of dirty carpets with one formula after another.
Eventually, he developed a revolutionary carbonated solution that cleaned beautifully. With the birth of Chem-Dry in 1977 came the opportunity for self-employment and success. The demand for his cleaning services mushroomed, and soon, friends and family clamored for his secret. From its initial small group of franchises, the Chem-Dry network has expanded to thousands of successful franchises worldwide. As the Chem-Dry family increases, Robert Harris has seen his success story repeated by many franchisees.
